Increase our access to High-Value Philanthropy (Request for Proposals)

Project Overview

Do it Now Now would like to engage with High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI), particularly those of Afro-Caribbean descent, to increase our impact with the Black community through valuable products or offers. From the research by GiveBLACK, we know that there is a gap in the knowledge and understanding of what Black HNWIs are funding and to what extent. The report also tells us that Black-led organisations like Do it Now Now, don’t necessarily know the best routes and methods to approach Black HNWIs.

Do it Now Now currently doesn’t have an active HNWI donor practice so this work will enable us to make our first steps into creating our strategy and activities in this area.

Organisation details

Do it Now Now (DiNN) is an open innovation organisation driven by the desire to bring social empowerment to Black communities across the globe. We bring charities, social entrepreneurs, startup teams, social innovators, investors, and philanthropists together to address social challenges, solve problems and support the development of Black communities specifically. We do this through entrepreneurship training and support in 6 African countries and in the UK.

We have an established track record, financed largely by consultancy work we have done with organisations like Google, Goldsmiths University, the British Council and others. This gives us the opportunity to continue supporting Black entrepreneurs who are unable to access paid services elsewhere. For more information on DiNN, please read our last Impact Report - 2019-20.

Purpose of project

  1. Know the needs of wealth managers working with Black HNWIs as they choose opportunities to present to their clients and how they are working with organisations like King Baudouin Foundation to distribute their funding to charities and social enterprises.

  2. Know what DiNN has to do/be to engage successfully with the wealth managers of Black HNWIs to become a core conduit of their clients’ philanthropic money.

  3. Scope out 2-3 products/offers that our team can deliver to Black HNWIs in the future.

Key questions we are looking to answer

Based on the purpose of this project, we would be interested in the project investigating the following, though we are not limiting the scope to these things:

  • What do we have to do to attract wealth managers?

  • What kinds of programmes/services should we offer - what do the HNWIs want?

  • Cost comparisons - what are others offering for their core cost percentage asks and how can we be competitive?

  • What necessary materials should we have in place/in our pitch documents?

Activities

As well as delivering a report, we would be interested in you running two roundtable discussions. These would be towards the start and end of the project. The first roundtable will help us ensure that the programme of work has considered all the necessary avenues that we should be addressing in the context of this project. The second roundtable discussion would allow our small group of experts to learn the outcome of the work and help them support us as we look to begin piloting our programme of work in Q4 of 2023.

If there is perceived value, we would like you to also support us to run a showcase to Wealth Managers about what we do at DiNN and invite their clients to fund our work.

How to respond to this brief:

We’ve emailed this brief to three organisations/individuals and are promoting it through our social media channels.

If you’re interested in engaging with this brief, please email Debby Mulling responding to the following points (no more than 600 words) by midnight 16 April 2023:

  • Why you think you would be great for this project.

  • Demonstrate relevant experience you have by referencing two previous pieces of work.

  • A proposal outline explaining what you are going to do and how you are going to address this project (your approach and method).

  • A budget with separate lines for key deliverables.

  • Your timeline for this work.

In the first instance, we’d like to arrange a chat with 3 or 4 individuals/organisations in the second half of April. From there we might ask 2 or 3 to write a more detailed proposal including the resources/involvement you will need from our team. This will allow us to be in a good position to make a decision by the end of April/early May.

If you have any questions about this brief, how to respond, or the process, please email Debby Mulling.

Thank you for your interest in working with us.
