Redefining Success as a Black Womxn, LGBTQ+, and Non-Binary Living in the UK

Success and financial freedom are often associated with traditional paths and predefined norms in today's society. However, some remarkable individuals challenge these notions and pave their way, breaking barriers and redefining what it means to be successful. Through their outstanding accomplishments and groundbreaking contributions, they have made a difference and become trailblazers who redefine success and financial freedom on their terms. This blog post aims to shed light on five inspirational stories:

Munroe Bergdor

Munroe Bergdorf is a prominent Black transgender activist, model, and DJ who has fearlessly used her platform to advocate for racial and gender equality. With an unwavering commitment to fighting discrimination and injustice, Munroe has challenged societal norms and sparked crucial conversations surrounding intersectionality and LGBTQ+ rights.

Despite facing immense backlash, she continues to be a powerful voice for change, inspiring others to embrace their authentic selves and pursue their passions. In addition to her activism, Munroe has broken barriers in the fashion industry, becoming the first openly transgender model to work with a major beauty brand. Through her activism and resilience, Munroe Bergdorf is redefining success by creating spaces for queer, racialised voices to be heard and respected.


Phyll Opoku-Gyima

Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, also known as Lady Phyll, is a Black lesbian activist and co-founder of UK Black Pride. Her relentless efforts in advocating for the rights and visibility of Black LGBTQ+ individuals have profoundly impacted the community. Lady Phyll's work within UK Black Pride has provided a crucial platform for intersectional conversations and community building.

​Her tireless dedication to social justice has led to recognition and honours, including being listed on the BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour Power List of the Top 100 most powerful women in the UK. Through her activism and leadership, Lady Phyll is rewriting the narrative of success by empowering racialised communities and championing equality.


Rikki Beadle-Blai

Rikki Beadle-Blair is a Black gay filmmaker, playwright, and actor known for his groundbreaking work in queer cinema and theatre. He has written, directed, and produced numerous plays and films that explore themes of race, sexuality, and identity.

​Rikki's productions, such as "Stonewall" and "Bashment," have challenged societal norms and brought LGBTQ+ stories to the forefront. His creative endeavours have contributed to the cultural landscape and paved the way for more excellent representation and financial opportunities for queer artists.


Sade Giliberti

Sade Giliberti is a Black South African-British media personality, presenter, and producer, known for her work across various platforms, including radio, television, and digital media. As an openly bisexual woman, Sade uses her influence to amplify LGBTQ+ voices and advocate for greater representation. She has worked with leading media outlets and production companies, creating content that explores queer narratives and challenges societal norms.

Sade's commitment to authentic storytelling and amplifying underrepresented voices has earned her accolades and respect within the industry. By fearlessly embracing her identity and using her platform for positive change, Sade Giliberti is redefining success in the media landscape while championing inclusivity and diversity.


Chi Chi Nwanok

Chi Chi Nwanoku is a Nigerian-born, British double bassist and founder of the Chineke! Foundation. She has achieved remarkable success as a musician, performing with prestigious orchestras and ensembles worldwide. However, it is her groundbreaking work with The Chineke! Foundation; a foundation that aims to increase the representation of Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse musicians in classical music, breaking down barriers and challenging systemic racism within the industry.

Chi Chi's commitment to nurturing and empowering young musicians has created new opportunities for underrepresented individuals, showcasing their talent and potential. By redefining success in the classical music sphere, Chi Chi Nwanoku is reshaping the industry's future and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
